I am Alexander Schmaal, I'm a CMGT student and I aspire to be a game designer in the future.

About Me

As a young kid, I've always enjoyed playing games & watching animated movies. However one day, I asked myself: how do these things get created? So at the age of 10, I started picking up Blender to learn animation 2 years later, I expanded my interest to video games.

When I was 15, me and a tiny group of people I met online created our "virtual online studio". Our goal was to create games for fun on the Roblox platform. I currently lead it and we're still working on game projects/ We named our group "SkyTide Studios" and we've been doing this for around 3 years by now.

And finally at the age of 18, I graduated from high school and decided to study CMGT. That's where I am now. In the future, I aspire to be a game designer. I love creating games and building immersive worlds.

"Canyon Racers" (Student team project)

Mobile plane racing game prototype where you raise against the computer, while using weapons and abilities to hinder them. I was mainly responsible for the gameplay & level design.

In addition to that, I also put in the effort to contribute with (post processing) shaders, UI concepts and early versions of the enemy AI.

"Cyber Break" (Student team project)

A rogue-like isometric shooter where you progress through rooms. I was responsible for the level design, music, assisting the artists with 3D modelling + animations and the logo design.

"Nature Bleeds" (Student team project)

A FPS shooter where you fight against hordes of robots. I was responsible for the level design, the shader controlling the environment and the music.

Godot Basic RPG Prototype

My first 3D Godot project. This project was all about exploring the basics of Godot's 3D side, along with exploring basic level design & learning how to transition from a "Blockout" phase to a more polished version of a level including art assets. Check out the research & reflection report!

Cel shader

A cel shader I wrote inside of Godot. I decided to research this shader so I could use it to learn for future (hobby & commercial) projects that have a stylized look to them. (Think about narrative level design for example)
